Risca 12 - Bedlinog 27

Match report by Clive James:

Bedlinog were the visitors to the Stores Field and Risca were looking to gain the first win of the season after last weeks defeat at Dowlais which left everyone deflated.A late change saw Ieuan Davies coming in to the 2nd.row after Dean Whatley dropped out otherwise it was the same side that finished last weeks game.

Risca started the first half with high intensity and took the game to the visitors with some superb play. With three minutes gone the homeside took the lead when from a lineout the ball was won and hooker Louis Tovey drove over after some good approach work from his fellow forwards.Pesci added the extras.

Risca continued to exert pressure with Tovey,Carlin,Davies,Rowlands and Roberts making big carries. From one drive the ball was moved quickly along the backs and when full back Elliot Haines created a two on one he timed his pass to perfection for wing Ryan Dallimore to go over in the corner for an unconverted try.

On the half hour mark Bedlinog got on the scoreboard when no.10 Dan Parry put over a penalty after Risca were caught offside.

Half time Risca 12pts.- 3pts.Bedlinog.

As in previous games this season Risca conceded an early score in the second period and this allowed Bedlinog to believe they could get something out of the game as the momentum shifted in their favour. On twenty five minutes they got their second try to take the lead when flanker Gareth Davies scored in the corner after a counter attack from the halfway line.

Ten minutes later Risca after being pinned on their goal line for a period of time did well to relieve the pressure only for an inside pass on the ten yard line to be intercepted by no.10 Parry who ran in under the posts for a simple score which he also converted.

With the visitors tails up the bonus point try came when substitute Craig Davies went over in the corner to leave Risca wondering when the first victory will come.

After a good first period Risca were not able to build on the good things they did and push on to secure the win.

The forwards again gave everything and behind the scrum centres Sabri and Miles Anderson were constantly probing for openings while wings Curtis Ayling and Ryan Dallimore were prominent.

Man of the Match this week was 2nd.row Geraint Roberts who made numerous carries during the afternoon.

The Youth entertained Caerleon and lost a close encounter 14pts.- 0.

Next Saturday Risca travel to Blaenavon.K.O.2.30.
