Risca travelled to Blaenavon for a League and Cup doubleheader still looking for the first win of the season.

Captain Joe Carlin dropped out due to illness which meant Louis Tovey took his place in the backrow with Henry Palmer filling the hookers spot.Ben Simmonds partnered Ryan Dallimore in the centre for the unavailable Miles Anderson and Adam Sabri.Ian Broughton came in at full back with Elliot Haines moving to his normal wing position and Youth no.10 Brad Parker was making his debut on the opposite wing.Dylan Musto was at scrum half with Matthew Plews dropping to the bench.

On a gloomy afternoon the game got underway and within the first ten minutes the homeside had raced into a 12point lead with two tries and this was compounded even more when 2nd.row Elliot Bateman left the field with an hand injury.Lewis Hobbs came off the bench to make his Risca debut. Then Blaenavon extended their lead when the no.10 put over a penalty after Risca were caught offside.

The visitors then got back into the game and moved up to the Blaenavon 22 with some good approach play.An injury to Ian Broughton held play up for five minutes and when the game resumed Matt Plews came on at scrum half with Dylan Musto moving to the wing and Brad Parker switching to full back.

After more pressure Risca the ball moved to Ben Pesci who chipped over the defence and Ben Simmonds got the touchdown for Pesci to add the conversion.

The momentum remained with the visitors and Blaenavon were penalised 30metres out.Risca chose to kick to touch instead of going for goal and this proved the wrong choice as the homeside won back possession and from a scrum back on the Risca 22 the Blaenavon scrum half raced away to score the extras were added and the halftime whistle went with the score 7pts.-22 when it could have been 10pts.-15.

The second half was only three minutes old when with Risca pressing the ball was spilled and the Blaenavon wing latched on to it and ran 40metres to touch down for another converted try.

When a sides luck is out it's out and the homesides fifth try proved that when the 2nd.row galloped over under the posts after a blatant forward pass.A sixth try came right on time securing Blaenavon maximum points and progress in the cup.

Again the forwards worked hard with Geraint Roberts,Louis Tovey and Alex Sully all prominent.Behind the scrum Ryan Dallimore and Ben Simmonds worked hard all afternoon but it was Youth product Brad Parker who caught the eye not being phased on his debut with a solid performance.
