Risca 10 - Nelson 25

Match report by Clive James:

Both sides today in the league were looking for their first win of the season and it was the away team Nelson, who got the victory after a lack lustre performance from Risca.

Elliot Haines came in at full back with Brandon Kent and Adam Sabri making up the centre partnership.Rhys Meredith came back at scrum half while Alex Sully joined Gez Roberts in the 2nd.row.Henry Palmer (now duelled with Newport RFC) covering the hooker position.

It was Nelson who exerted the early pressure  and after squandering an early scoring opportunity they made no mistake after ten minutes when they went over for an unconverted try.Risca then responded with a superb try after first of all a driving maul took play into the Nelson 22 then a driving lineout saw no.8 Callum Coughlin touching down for an unconverted score.Nelson then responded with a second try wide out after some weak tackling from Risca. The lead was widened when no.15 James Spear put over a penalty and half time came with the visitors ahead 15pts.-5.

The second half saw Risca gaining a foothold inside the Nelson 22 after Brandon Kent followed up his own kick ahead and tackled the defender on the goalline.Nothing came from the pressure and it was the visitors who extended their lead when Spear put over another penalty after an offside decision.

Then on 20minutes replacement hooker Palmer was yellow carded and from the resultant scrum no.16 Fisher picked up and charged over for a converted try.

The last ten minutes Risca then began to play and after some really good approach work centre Adam Sabri went over for an unconverted try. From the restart the homeside again got a foothold inside the Nelson 22 but could not add to the score.

Full time 10pts.-25.

This was a lack lustre performance lacking leadership and energy from the majority of the team.Home games should be points on the board and unless there's an improved effort over the next few weeks this will be a long hard season.

Those who stood out were Rhys Meredith, who never fails to deliver.Allyn Evans who tackled all afternoon and Man of the Match Callum Anderson who worked hard for eighty minutes.

Next Saturday Dowlais are the visitors K.O.2.30.
