Risca arrived at Newbridge looking to upset the hosts who were adapting to life in Division  1 after being relegated from the Championship last seaso n.Matthew Plews came in at scrum half for the unavailable Rhys Meredith,Callum Anderson was at tighthead prop with his brother Ryan covering on the bench,Alex Sully was at no.6 while behind the scrum Adam Sabri partnered Miles Anderson in the centre.

In front of a large crowd the game got underway and it was the hosts who gained the early initiative when within the first ten minutes they were 10pts.ahead through a penalty and then a try from centre Turley converted by no.10 Crandon.Ben Pesci put over a penalty for Risca to reduce the defecit and it was the visitors who then found their composure and started taking the game to Newbridge. The remainder of the half saw both sides probing for an opening but the defences held firm and half time came with no further scores.

Half time 3pts.-10.

The second half saw Ryan Anderson replace brother Callum at prop.As like last week against Brynmawr an early score was conceded when ex Risca centre Matt McGovern ran past the first line of cover and powered his way over wide out for an unconverted try.For the next fifteen minutes the visitors were putting Newbridge under a lot of pressure at the set scrums and after gaining a foothold in the 22 the lineout was won and when the ball was moved into mid-field centre Miles Anderson ran a perfect line to touch down under the posts.Ben Pesci added the extras and it was game on.

The half hour mark saw Risca being penalised for not releasing in the tackle and Crandon put over the simple kick to extend the lead once more.

With the clock running down the visitors after being in the 22 defending made their way into the opposition 22.A wrong option seemed to have been taken when kicking to the corner instead of going for goal.Nothing came from the lineout but when the ball came back Newbridge were penalised under their posts and Pesci kicked the penalty to secure a losing bonus point

Full Time

Risca 13pts.- 20pts.Newbridge.

Fine margins again saw Risca falling short in gaining all 4points.A period of pressure in the first half which saw no reward, lapses in concentration and a couple of missed tackles giving the game to Newbridge.

The new players in the squad are exciting prospects and the team are not far away from delivering the wins to move up the table.

Man of the Match was Ryan Dallimore who caused the home defence all sorts of trouble with his direct running. Not far behind him was prop Ryan Anderson who gave his opposite number a torrid time at the set scrums as well as making big carries.

The Youth were at home to Caerleon and lost a close game 19pts.- 20.

Next Saturday Hartridge are the visitors in the 1st round of the Plate.Kick off 2.30pm.
