Dowlais were the visitors to the Stores Field for a first ever fixture between the two sides. On a day when all those at the club were mourning the passing of Mike James it was the performance of the team that lifted the gloom,a nine try victory that he would have been proud of.

After going behind within 3minutes to a penalty from no.10 S.James the homeside took the lead when full back Dowle made ground down the left hand touchline before Joe Carlin carried on the movement and after bouncing out of tackles crossed for an unconverted try.A penalty from Dowle followed on 15minutes after an infringement from Dowlais trying to stop a driving maul.

Two more tries followed after 25 minutes. The first came after Risca moved into the visitors 22metre area on the left hand touchline, the ball was moved infield to Biddy who delayed his pass to wing Ryan Dallimore who came in at pace to touch down for Dowle to add the extras.

From the restart Geraint Roberts took a clean catch under pressure and when the ball moved to Ryan Dallimore he followed up his own kick ahead, gathered and outstripped the Dowlais covering players to score his second try.Dowle again added the extras.

Risca continued to attack and when it looked as if they might add to their tally a move broke down on the visitors 22 and quick hands saw the ball move to the Dowlais left wing who ran in from halfway for a converted try.

But just before the break from broken play Dowle picked up the loose ball 30metres out and sidestepped a number of defenders before sprinting over for another good individual try.He also added the conversion.

Half Time 29pts - 16.

The second half saw more quality tries being scored with captain Rhys Meredith touching down after a length of the field movement with Dowle and Dallimore prominent.HookerTovey dotted down after a strong driving maul to increase the lead even further. All the bench were used and all contributed to the performance.Wing Ben Pesci intercepted on the ten yard line and ran in for a try again converted by Dowle,Ieuen Davies and Callum Anderson made some good carries,Jake Porter put in some good tackles and scrum half Liam Thomas put in a clever kick from a tight angle allowing Dowle to go over for his second score.

Dowlais got a consolation try near the end but this was Risca's day.

Full back Dowle contributed 23pts.while wing Ryan Dallimore weighed in with two very good tries. But to single any one player out would be unfair as this was a team effort and everyone deserves credit for the performance on a heavy pitch after the recent rain.

The Athletic made it two wins as they beat Penallta 10pts.- 5.

Next week Risca 1st.Xv travel to Abertillery BG.
