Risca 10 - Penallta 35

Match report by Clive James

Risca's wait for a first League win of the season continued on Saturday when Penallta left the Stores Field with a 35pts.-10 victory. The home side started well and put the visitors under pressure with some good approach play and they deservedly took the lead when after a surging run from scrum half Rhys Meredith Penallta were penalised at the breakdown and no.10 Ben Pesci put over the simple kick from in front of the posts. The visitors then responded with two penalties from no.15 Joe Scrivens and then right on half time ill discipline from Risca resulted in a converted try from no.10 Will Keep.

Half Time 3pts.-13.
Risca again started the second period brightly only to have the stuffing knocked out of them when a wayward pass was intercepted by 2nd.row Geraint Capel who ran in for an easy score which went unconverted.
The home side then crossed the whitewash when from a strong scrum the ball was worked infield and leading try scorer Ryan Dallimore used his speed and strength to force his way over near the posts for Pesci to add the extras.
After working hard to get back in the game it was the introduction of scrum half Aeron Bidgood for Penallta that swung the match back to the visitors. He increased the tempo and he got two tries with flanker Max George also getting a try after a superb angled run.
Final Score 10pts.-35.
The Risca team put in a real effort to get something out of the game but unlike Penallta who had players coming on to keep the tempo going the homeside sadly lacked that.
Ryan Anderson was an immovable presence at scrum time during the first half and when he came back on late in the second period,Alex Sully worked hard throughout the game while Geraint Roberts,Elliot Bateman,Callum Coughlin and Louis Tovey all made big carries. But Man of the Match this week was top try scorer Ryan Dallimore who was moved to centre today. He made hard yards throughout the afternoon and was rewarded with yet another try.
