The Athletic made the short journey to Maesglas to take on the Saracens in the Newport and District Cup.

With a jumbo pack including the Anderson brothers,Tom and Ryan Crandon and Geraint Roberts as well as a strong backline

which included Ben Pesci at scrum half, returning after his ankle injury they looked capable of progressing to the next round.

The game did not pan out as expected and while the Athletic dominated at the set piece the threequarters could not capitalise on 

the possession due to Sarries last ditch tackles but mainly from being constantly penalised throughout the evening.At half time two yellow and a red card were given against Risca.The sending off was very harsh as the tackle was hard,but fair.

 The game degenerated into being farcical and it was no surprise that the Sarries were awarded a try right on time,while two Risca players

were down injured.The try was converted and the final whistle went.Lewis Millard landed four penalties for Risca.
