Risca gained maximum points for the second week running with a 41pts.- 18 win at Abertillery/BG.

Rhys James came into the centre in place of the unavailable Matt McGovern,Liam Thomas,Owain Cooper and Callum Anderson started at scrum half, hooker and 2nd.row respectively while youth product Ben Murphy came in on the bench covering at outside half.

Full back Dowle put the visitors ahead after ten minutes with a penalty goal then on twenty minutes the first try came when scrum half Liam Thomas picked up the ball from the back of a driving maul and ran in unapposed from twenty five metres out,Dowle added the extras.  Two more scores quickly followed, Dowle putting over another penalty after Aber brought down a driving maul, then from the restart the ball was quickly moved along the backline to Rhys James who made a superb break deep into the Abertillery half. The move broke down and Aber counter attacked taking play back up to the Risca 22. When the ball was moved across field Risca infringed and the home no.10 put over the penalty. Back came the visitors with their next score and it went to Liam Thomas who was in support after full back Dowle had made a break. Dowle again put over the conversion.

Aber were finding it difficult to contain the Risca eight and were constantly being shunted back at scrum time. From one set piece the ball came back on the Risca side and after being prominent in the tight Geraint Rowlands made a strong run upfield taking three defenders with him. The play moved to the right and centre Rhys James went over wide out, Dowle again put over the conversion.

Half Time 27pts.- 3.

Within 2minutes of the second half Risca were caught offside and the no.10 put over the penalty from in front of the posts. The response was immediate and from a driving maul on the home 22 centre Rhys James ripped the ball away and ran over under the posts for his second try, Dowle put over the conversion. The home team then got their first try when after numerous resets at the scrum on the Risca line they scambled over for a converted score.

Changes saw Callum Anderson,Owain Cooper being replaced by Jake Porter and Louis Tovey with James Sully moving to the 2nd.row. With Anderson off the home eight then began to gain the initiative at the scrums but could not make the possession they were getting count.

Captain Rhys Meredith then came on for Liam Thomas and Ben Murphy made his debut replacing Biddy.

After the play moved from end to end Risca then got the next score when prop Adam Jones charged over under the posts for his first try for the club after good approach work from the forwards. Dowle converted.

Abertillery BG got a consolation try when veteran wing Aled Penn forced his way over in the corner.

Full Time 41pts.- 18.

This was not as a convincing performance as last week but it was a very good away win with five tries being scored.

Rhys James came into the centre and was very prominent but prop Geraint Rowlands was without question Man of the Match for his alround display in the tight and open play.

The youth drew at home 10pts.each against Caldicot.

Next league fixture is at Brynmawr Wednesday k.o 7.15pm.
