Math report by Mike Allen
Risca hang on for the victory to go through to the next round of the SWALEC Plate Round Competition.
It was all Risca from the outset. It was after two minutes only that Risca had good possession from the scrum, Scott Turner went down the blind side, linked up with Captain MarK Bale who made good ground before feeding Gareth Smith who run in from fifteen metres for an excellent try which was converted by Scott Turner.
It all then developed into a forward battle with ground conditions deteriorating and the ball like a bar of soap. Mike Hutchings, Louis Tovey and Callum Anderson were immense up front and gained more than 50% possession. However, Llandudno dominated out in the open-play and did everything bar score.
H.T. Risca 7points Llandudno nil.
Early in the second half Risca scored a good penalty through Turner against the run of play. With Llandudno starting to dominate with more possession Risca's bench were brought into action. Rhys Meredith getting his first run out since October 3rd showed up immediately with Risca's defence being fully tested, With five minutes left on the clock Turner took another good penalty from thirty five metres but Llandudno had the last say and got a well deserved try and conversion.
Risca spent the last two minutes defending their line (backs against the wall). Llandudno travelled home wondering why they didn't win with about 80% possession, but Risca's defence were great. With Captain Mark Bale having his best game of the season, his catching of the ball of mud and his line-kicking was perfect. Rhys Meredith also shone on his return but MAN of the MATCH was the outstanding .Gareth Smith.
Next Saturday Risca travel to Bedlinog.
