Cardiff Quins 27 - Risca 28

Report by Mike Allen

Risca dominated possession from the start with the pack outstanding. But all the possession could not produce any points, with knock-on's, forward passes and with white-line fever it was fifteen minutes on the clock before some dominating scrumages took their toll, Gareth Smith driving through from a five metre maul just failed to make the line, but a good pick-up by No 8 Mathew Williams took him through for the first try, Owain Biddiscombe took the conversion.

With Risca still gaining good possession and some great running from Rhys James and Nathen Williams producing some excellent chances

Just on twenty-five minutes Risca lost possession on the Quins twenty-two metre line a good pick-up by Quins right wing D. Franklin out paced the non existing Risca defence to run the seventy-five metres for an excellent try, converted by P. Adams.

Risca resumed their attacking straight away with Captain Tom Crandon and Anthony Simmonds making good ground which brought a penalty just on seven metre's from the Quins line, Risca took the scrum and the scrum popped up twice with a penalty try awarded and Biddy took the extra's.

The Quins immediately replied with another long range try again converted, also the Quins took a long range penalty just before the interval. Half-time Cardiff Quins 17 points Risca 14 Points.

Risca opened the second half brightly but their early attacks were spoiled when they conceded penalties at crucial times, one such lapse after twelve minutes allowed Quins to kick an excellent penalty to push their load to 20 points to 14 points.

The next thirty Minutes was all Risca with them moving the ball at every opportunity, Biddiscombe, James and Williams starting to find the gaps they wanted, but it was the Captain that took the glory with two great tries under the posts, both converted by Biddy.

The Quins took another good try turning defence into counter attack converting with the final result on a knife edge.

Some fine performances through out the Risca side but Captain Tom Crandon having played his best game of the season named MAN OF THE MATCH.

Next Saturday Risca travel to play N.H.O.B. in the S.W.L.E.C. PLATE competition.
