Match report by Clive James
This was consecutive weekends that Risca conceded forty points. After last weeks 40pts.-21defeat at Ynysybwl, six tries were scored by Nelson who ran out winners 43pts.-15.
The game was really over by halftime with Risca gifting the home side the 28pts.-3 lead with a combination of poor tackling, decision making and wayward kicking. Risca's lineout did not function well while Nelson were more aggressive at the breakdown area.
Early in the second half when flanker Allyn Evans and prop Mike Hutchings were introduced there was more go forward and with Risca's set scrum giving the home eight trouble Nelsons momentum was stemmed.Riscas' points came from a penalty and conversion from Owain Biddescombe and 2tries from wing Wayne Whitehead who has found the whitewash in all of the league games to date. His 2tries and willingness to look for work during the afternoon makes him my Man of the Match. The backline look capable of causing sides trouble but need quality ball to do this.Hopefully in the coming weeks when the squad sees its injured players return and maybe if the pack can be strengthened in key areas we can start turning things around.
Next Saturday Brynmawr are the visitors.
