Risca 28 - Ynysybwl 3

Match report by Clive James:

The Bwl's came to the Stores Field looking to gain the double after the 40pts.-21 home win. But  they went away with their tails between their legs after a superb all round performance from Risca gaining them a notable victory.

A late change saw captain Rhys Meredith coming onto the wing replacing top try scorer Wayne Whitehead who was ill.Tom Josham retained his place on the other wing, while loosehead prop Matthew Prosser was on permit from Newport.

This was a game where the home team dominated throughout and the visitors were not allowed to gain any type of foothold. While two yellow cards were issued the penalty count against Risca was negligible and from opposition kick offs possession was secured throughout unlike in previous games. The team played a very structured way and it resulted in three very good tries being scored. The first after twenty three minutes saw centre Corey Nicholls going over after prop Prosser flicked the ball to hooker Tovey who handed onto no.8 Mike Preece who made good ground before giving the scoring pass.Dowle added the conversion to his earlier penalty. Then on the half hour mark the second came when again Prosser started a move which was carried on by the impressive Tetley whose pass found the supporting Carlin who touched down,Dowle added the extras.

Half time 17pt.-3.

Early in the second half Risca's prop was yellow carded and for a period Ynysybwl exerted a bit of pressure but the defence held firm and in fact extended their lead with Dowle kicking two more penalties. Both teams then had players carded, yellow for Carlin and a red for a Ynysybwl player after a flare up. The third try was scored by scrum half Liam Thomas after a period of pressure on the visitors line.Risca kept the screw turning for the remainder of the half but could not get the bonus point try.Final score 28pts.-3.

This was a team performance with everyone from 1 to 15 deserving a Man of the Match.

Hopefully with the visit of Nelson next week another 5star effort can be put in.
