Risca 12 - Dowlais 15

Match report by Clive James

Dowlais were the visitors to the Stores Field looking to avenge the last minute defeat they suffered in December while the home team

were hoping to gain the double to ensure division 1 status again next season.
Brandon Kent was the only change to last weeks squad coming in to the centre for the unavailable Taylor Dimmick.
As good as Risca were last week they were equally as bad this Saturday.Dowlais were a different proposition to Hartridge and came with a game plan to frustrate and thwart the home team. That and some dubious refereeing decisions, which affected both sides, saw Dowlais achieve their revenge win.
The visiting front five in the first half dominated things at the set piece and the half backs controlled the game for long periods.
Risca could not gain clean ball and that together with numerous handling errors from both teams saw the game become a poor advert for Division 1 rugby.
Neither side crossed the whitewash and it was a kicking contest between the both no.10's.Four penalties from Ben Murphy matched four from Sion Martin
and then the decisive score came late in the game when Captain Rhys Meredith was yellow carded for an alleged bad tackle and the Dowlais 10 put over the winning kick from the touchline.
Full Time 12pts.-15.
The only period in the game when Risca played with any tempo was when prop Jordan Rogers came on.His scrummaging and ball carrying causing the visiting team problems.Unfortunately he didn't get the support that would have swung the tight game in the homesides favour.
The Youth lost 47pts.-0 to Brynmawr in the quarter final of the Plate.
Next Saturday Brecon are the visitors.K.0.2.30.
