Match report - Mike Allen

With ten changes from last week Risca travelled to Nelson and struck four times decisively to gain a bonus point win.

Risca took a six-minute lead when open side Allyn Evans gained a great turnover ball to put blindside Todd James over the white-wash, converted by Owain Biddiscombe.

With Risca's scrum performing excellently, Billy John, Owain Cooper and Daniel Webb were well on top and Risca 's pressure paid off, Nelson pack buckled up for Biddy to take a good penalty, Nelson replied within two minutes with a long range penalty of their own.

Just on twenty-seven minutes No9 Rhys Meredith opened up a crack in Nelson's defence for young Dan Webb to blast through two defenders for an unstoppable try, Biddy converting.

Nelson replied with a penalty but Biddy struck back once more right on forty minutes to put Risca up twenty points to six points at the interval.

For the first twenty minutes of the second half Risca played some suicide rugby trying to run out of defence, and Nelson thanked Risca for this with two interception tries both converted, the only reply to that was a penalty by Biddy and Risca were creaking with only a three point lead.

Risca then introduced their subs with Mike Hutchings and Louis Tovey coming in up front and Nick Davenport back at No8 and Neil Lewis into the centre.

The fresh legs were beginning to work and Davenport made an immediate impact with a great drive off the back of the scrum to get a try wide out, Biddy failed with the kick.

Right on the stroke of full time Risca's centre Leighton Burrows picked up a poor pass from Nelson's half-backs to run-in an excellent try from thirty-five mts to get the bonus point, the conversion failed.

A couple of new faces put a mark down with some excellent performances but the stand-out performance for THE MAN OF THE MATCH was Daniel Webb.

Next Saturday Risca play host to Glamorgan Wanderers.
