After the Autumn International break Risca finally got game time when they visited Abertillery in the Ben Francis cup competition.
With the next league fixture against table topping Penallta Risca needed this game to blow away the cobwebs and even though the home side took the lead inside two minutes with a penalty goal, Risca put together some good passages of play to go in front with a try by prop Billy John. This lead was short lived when an attempted kick through was charged down on halfway and centre Miles kicked on and won the race for the touchdown. This was then followed by a penalty to extend the lead. Risca came back with more good play and this resulted in the home side infringing for Biddiscombe to put over a penalty. This was quickly followed by a try from full back Liam Thomas to see the visitors go in at half time 13-11.
The second half became error strewn with both sides guilty of making basic mistakes which both sides capitalised on with Abertillery adding two more penalties and Risca running in a third try by wing Aled Brown to see Risca 18-17 winners and so top the group.
